Everton defender Kurt Zouma has hailed Jermaine Pickford as one of the world’s best goalkeepers after he redeemed himself with a strong performance against Newcastle United in the Premier League. The England international was guilty of the mistake, which cost the Toffees a valuable point against Liverpool last weekend, but he managed to make amends with an impressive showing in the 1-1 draw against the Magpies.
Speaking after the game, Zouma was full of praise for the former Sunderland man, who ensured that the Toffees came up with one point against the Magpies, he said: “We know he’s different class. Everyone can make mistakes but what he did today was show he is one of the best keepers in the world. He just needs to keep doing that and help us win games. Everybody’s disappointed with the result. Obviously we couldn’t score a second goal. Their goal was the only chance they had in the first half. We tried to move the ball quickly but not how we wanted in the first half. The second half was a bit better so there are some positives to take.”
“Salomon Rondon gave the Magpies the advantage with a 19th-minute opener“ but they were pegged back before the break with Richarlison finding the scoresheet. Thereafter, the Toffees managed to dominate the proceedings without much success and they were eventually grateful to the services of “Pickford for the stalemate “after the Englishman made two crucial saves to deny Christian Atsu at the final stage of the game.
With the result, the Toffees remain sixth on the table with 23 points, eight behind Chelsea, who are currently occupying the final Champions League qualification position. Next up, the Toffees are scheduled to entertain Watford in the Premier League on Monday night. The Hornets are only three points behind Marco Silva’s side in the standings.
