Theo Walcott was once again not in the Southampton squad as he continues to recover from a tendon injury suffered at the end of January. The ex-Everton and Arsenal winger was one of several players missing for Southampton during the home clash with Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend. The Saints struggled in the absence of Theo Walcott as they were beaten 2-1 at home by the Seagulls. Southampton were without several key players for the game including the aforementioned Walcott. Others like Danny Ings and OriolRomeu also sat out the Brighton game for the hosts due to various injuries. Everton loanee Theo Walcott has been missing for his boyhood club since sustaining a tendon injury in the second half of the home game with Aston Villa around two months ago. He was unable to prevent the Saints from losing 1-0 at home to Villa. Theo Walcott is back at Southampton on loan from Everton though reports claimed that the Englishman will stay at Southampton permanently at the end of the loan deal. The Three Lions of England attacker was a teenager when he broke into the Southampton first team several years ago before making a big move to Arsenal at start of 2006. Twelve years down the line, he was sold to Everton and he has been with the Toffees until last summer when the winger returned to the Saints on loan for the final year of his contract at Everton.
Walcott has impressed on his return to Southampton with two goals and two assists in 16 league outings and he's expected to seal a free transfer to the club in the summer. He was missing in action on Sunday afternoon as the Saints made it 11 losses in 13 league games with the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion. The result means that Southampton are looking over their shoulders in the battle to survive relegation at the end of the season. Theo Walcott and Southampton are just seven points above the drop zone ahead of the final nine games in the Premier League this term.
