English winger Theo Walcott sat on the substitutes’ bench for the while duration of the Premier League clash between his Southampton side and hosts Leicester City on Saturday evening. Theo Walcott was an unused substitute during the game which ended in a 2-1 win for the Saints.
For the Leicester City game, Walcott watched on from the bench as Southampton came from behind to beat their hosts in the second half. After a goalless affair in the first half, English playmaker James Maddison gave Leicester City the lead at home from a direct free-kick. The goal from Maddison came nine minutes into the second half. Scotland striker Che Adams came on as a substitute for Frenchman Sekou Mara five minutes after the Leicester City goal and it took him just nine minutes to make an impact on the game. He scored the Southampton equaliser before adding a second goal six minutes from time to win the game for his team.
While Theo Walcott was in the Southampton squad for the Leicester City game at the weekend, he was not in the squad for the EFL Cup second round clash with League One side Cambridge United on Tuesday. Che Adams made it three goals in two games with the opening goal on 16 minutes before he added a second goal ten minutes after the half-time interval to make it four goals in two games. Young forward Dom Ballard came off the bench to seal the 3-0 scoreline. Southampton will now face another League One team in Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the competition.
