Theo Walcott was left disappointed with yet another poor performance from Arsenal especially in the second half, as they ended up losing 2-1 to Manchester City.
This was the second consecutive defeat for the gunners in the space of three days after they lost to Everton at Goodison Park by the same score. In fact, other elements of the game like Arsenal taking the lead were also largely similar. Against City, a Walcott can with a brilliant effort after just five minutes to tear apart the home team on the counter-attack.
In the past, Arsenal have been punished on the counter-attack by numerous teams that this was a time for the club to demonstrate their prowess in this element of the game. For much of the first half, Arsenal player on the counter-attack and could have come close to taking the lead on a couple of occasions.
It was not to be and the players were rightly punished just at the start of the second half when Sane equalised for City. Raheem Sterling’s goal a few minutes later turned around the match, but Arsenal fans were left more disappointed by the lack of any fight shown by the team in the second half even after going down.
Walcott admitted after the game that the second half was disappointing for the gunners. “We haven’t started the second halves very well. In previous games leading up now, we have actually played better in the second half and been on the front foot. But yesterday we were on the back foot and City dominated. We didn’t create any chances in the second half so are disappointed in that sense but you have got to give credit to City because they played some very good football at times and we found that difficult,” said Walcott after the game.
