Everton winger Theo Walcott has backed Cenk Tosun to showcase his best game when the Toffees kickstart the 2018/19 Premier League season. The Turkey international joined the Merseyside outfit from Besiktas midway through the previous campaign and had a good debut as he contributed eight goals and a further assist in the top-flight.
Speaking to Everton’s official website, Walcott has backed his teammate to come good during the 2018/19 season as he is expected to have a full pre-season under his belt, he said:“Cenk has settled in really well and you will see a lot more from him next season. He feels at home here, I believe. It’s a different culture and that’s not an easy thing for any player.”
New Toffees boss Marco Silva has yet to make any signings during the ongoing transfer window but the next few weeks should witness some activity with the midfield and defensive positions in need of further strengthening. Barcelona duo Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne have been eyed as potential competitors for the centre-back and left-back positions respectively next term but so far, the Toffees have yet to convince the Spanish champions into any kind of deal.
Meanwhile, the central midfield options are also under consideration with Morgan Schneiderlin tipped to make way but the Toffees are yet to identify a possible replacement for the outcast. Regardless of this, the Merseysiders should fancy their chances of competing for European football next season after being offered a relatively easier looking start for the new league campaign.
Silva’s men begin their league season with a tricky looking away trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers but thereon, they have three home games against Southampton, West Ham United, and Huddersfield Town where they should fancy their chances of taking maximum points. Everton begin their pre-season with an away game at Bury.
