WALCOTT: ARSENAL WANTED TO SIGN ME LAST SUMMER

Southampton winger Theo Walcott has revealed that his former side, Arsenal tried to sign him at the end of last season but decided against a return to the Emirates Stadium because he wanted to continue playing regular football. Walcott is not a stranger to Arsenal fans having spent the majority of his footballing career at the Emirates. He was promoted to the first team from the youth setup by former manager Arsene Wenger and he would then be allowed to show himself at the London club.

Walcott burst onto the scene as an electric winger and was known for terrorizing opposition defenders with his brilliant pace and attacking flair. He played a couple of games under Wenger but decided to leave the club after he started playing fewer games in London. He was sold to Merseyside outfit, Everton from Arsenal and was given the chance to rejuvenate his career at Goodison Park.

However, he also failed to bail himself a starting berth under Carlo Ancelotti and was eventually loaned to Southampton. At Southampton, he did what he had been struggling to do toward the end of his Arsenal career and at Everton. He immediately found his form and became one of the best players at St Mary's. Following his brilliant firm, Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhütl revealed that the Saints would be glad to retain his services and that they will talk to Everton in a bid to reach an agreement for his permanent transfer.

Speaking on his career journey so far, Walcott said he has had to face a lot of challenges in the last few years but he has also done well to ensure that he conquered those challenges. He then said Arsenal approached him last season but he said no to them because he figured he would not play as much as he wants at Arsenal.
