Experienced England international forward Theo Walcott made a return to the Southampton XI in the Premier League at the weekend. The ex-Arsenal and Everton player was named in the starting line-up for the home clash with Burnleyon Saturday afternoon by manager Ralph Hassenhuttl.
Theo Walcott was making his first start since his injury some weeks ago. He had not been seen in a Premier League starting XI since the home game against Manchester United in August. Theo Walcott was given 74 minutes by his manager before Scotland national team player Stuart Armstrong took his place in the XI as the Saints and Burnley shared a four-goal thriller. At the end of 90 minutes, Southampton and Burnley played out a 2-2 draw.
Ivorian midfielder Maxwell Cornet has been a revelation since he joined the club from French giants Lyon and he was responsible for the first goal of the game against the Saints. He gave the Clarets the lead on 13 minutes via a header from a Dwight McNeil cross. Burnley thereafter held on to that lead until four minutes from the interval when young TinoLivramento levelled proceedings for the hosts.
Shortly before the Southampton equaliser from Livramento, Saints forward Nathan Redmond missed an open goal as he failed to find the back of the net from a very good position. The two teams ended the first half on level terms with one goal apiece.
Southampton took the lead for the first time in the game through the impressive Albanian international Armando Broja five minutes after restart. The lead lasted for just five minutes before Cornet score his second goal and ultimately win a point for his team.
Despite the two goals from Cornet, Burnley are still without a win in the Premier League this season. The Clarets are one of three teams without a win in the league this season. The others are Newcastle United and bottom club Norwich City.
